The Embassy Hosts the Author of Armenia’s First Travel Guide

28 October, 2013

The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Canada will host a special cultural presentation about the creation of Armenia’s first travel guide at 2 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2013. This event will be held at the Armenian Embassy, 7 Delaware Ave., in Ottawa.

The presentation will feature US attorney Matthew Karanian, the author and photographer of ‘Armenia and Karabakh: The Stone Garden Travel Guide.”

He will discuss the journey of creating this book, and will narrate a photographic slide featuring stunning photography from Armenia and Artsakh. He will also show images from Historic (Western) Armenia, which is the subject of a future book. Karanian will tell the story of how he created Armenia’s first travel guide more than a decade ago, and how that guide has grown and evolved through three editions to become the award-winning book that was recently released.

Karanian says he created the book to introduce Armenia to Armenians and non-Armenians alike who might otherwise not be familiar with the country or who might be intimidated about traveling to such a distant and unfamiliar land.

“The beauty of Armenia never ceases to amaze me,” Karanian says. “I want to do what I can to help share it with as many people as possible.”

Karanian will also present his author talk at two public events in Canada: He will speak at 7 pm on Thursday, November 21 at the Armenian Community Center of Montreal, 3401 Olivar-Asselin, in Montreal; and at 2 pm on Sunday, November 24 at the Hamazkayin Armenian Community Center Hall, 45 Hallcrown Place in Toronto. The two events in Montreal and in Toronto are open to the public.
