Ambassador Yeganian’s meeting with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Honourable Bob Dechert

On March 26 Ambassador Armen Yeganian met the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Honourable Bob Dechert, MP.

During the meeting sides discussed issues of bilateral and interparliamentary relations, economic ties between Armenia and Canada. Ambassador Yeganian noted the considerable rise of the Canadian investments in Armenia’s mining industry but also underlined the importance of cooperation in High-Tech.

Ambassador thoroughly presented the geopolitical picture of the Southern Caucasus. Armen Yeganian briefed Bob Dechert on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and Armenian-Turkish relations. He indicated that the only venue for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the Minsk Group of the OSCE and emphasized the importance of Canada’s support to the peace process. Ambassador noted that it was Armenia that initiated the reconciliation process with Turkey, but later’s Government, unfortunately, did not honour its own signatures and responsibilities – returning to the language of preconditions.

At the end of the meeting sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of working relations between the Armenian Embassy and the Canadian foreign affairs, parliamentary and other state structures.
