On March 24, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, Armen Yeganian, met the Member of Parliament and Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, The Honourable Robert Oliphant.

Robert Oliphant shared his impressions and warm memories of his visit to Armenia in 2010. In turn, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia reported on the current status of Armenian-Canadian bilateral relations as well as recent developments in fields of mutual interest. Ambassador Yeganian then spoke about the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide, organized in Armenia and other countries of the world, including Canada, in 2015.

They also discussed the details of the official visit of a delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of the Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario, Matthew Torigian, to Armenia. Armen Yeganian informed Robert Oliphant that the members of this delegation participated in meetings and discussions at various government institutions, including a meeting with the Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan, Head of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan, Head of the Police of Armenia, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Gasparyan as well as with representatives of various departments of the Police. Ambassador Yeganian explained that the visit was aimed at assisting the reforms at the Educational Complex of Police of Armenia.

Armen Yeganian also spoke about Syrian-Armenian refugees and issues related to them, noting that Armenia received over 20,000 Syrian-Armenians and refugees of other nationals from Syria. He mentioned the efforts Armenia was making to support Syrian-Armenians who received asylum in Armenia. The parties discussed the participation of Armenia in peacekeeping operations in various countries.

The parties also exchanged ideas about Armenian-Canadian partnership in international arena, particularly in the framework of the International Organization of la Francophonie. In this context, they also touched upon the two-month Francophonie season in Armenia, launched on March 20, 2016.
