The Armenian Genocide book launch at the Embassy

07 June, 2006

 Book launch at the Embassy

The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia hosted Marsha Forchuk Scrypuch, a renowned Canadian writer and scholar who made presentation of her book “Aram’s Choice” - the story about the Armenian genocide. The event was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia.

This is a story of one of the 47 Armenian orphans who were rescued by Canada in 1923 and were housed and schooled at a farm in Georgetown of Ontario. The orphan’s journey from Turkey to Ontario is based on true events.

The launch initiated by the Embassy and attended by the Armenian Community representatives was welcomed by Mr. Arman Akopian, Charge d’Affaires of Armenia in Canada. Mr. Akopian attached great importance to Mrs. Skrypuch’s writings as significant tools to educate Canadian public and particularly school children – future leaders of Canada – about the Armenian genocide.

The bio of the author was comprehensively introduced by Mr. Aris Babikian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of Canada. Mr. Babikian noted that the importance of Mrs. Skrypuch’s work dedicated to the Armenian genocide which includes over hundred presentations and speeches per year in schools, libraries and conferences across Canada, can scarcely be exaggerated.

Mrs. Skrypuch then introduced some passages from the “Aram’s Choice” as well as other books on the Armenian genocide (“The Hunger”, 1999, “Nobody’s Child”, 2003) and answered questions of the audience.

Mrs. Skrypuch has two more books about the Armenian genocide due to publication in 2007: “Call Me Aram” and “Daughter of war” as sequels to previous ones.
