92nd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide marked at the Armenian Embassy in Ottawa

A memorial ceremony was held at the Armenian Embassy in Ottawa on April 24 to commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Evangelical Church in Canada, members of Canadian-Armenian organizations from Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, came together to remember victims of the genocide that claimed lives of 1.5 millions Armenians in Ottoman Turkey.

Mr. Arman Akopian, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in Canada, addressed the participants of the ceremony and thanked them for joining the Armenian Embassy on this day of sorrow. He expressed hope that the memorial ceremony at the Armenian Embassy will become an annual tradition.

The participants of the ceremony followed Mr. Akopian in laying their wreaths and flowers to the “Armenia Immortal” monument which symbolizes the Genocide of 1915 and the rebirth of the Armenian people.

Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Canada and Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada lead the participants in prayer for the souls of the innocent victims of Ottoman atrocities.

Mr. Diran Terzian, a Genocide survivor, travelled all the way from Toronto to attend the memorial ceremony at the Embassy as the guest of honour.

Also present at the ceremony was Mrs. Hilda Tchoboian, Chairwoman of the European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy, who spoke about the activities of Armenian organizations in Europe in the field of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
