Armenian Olympians honoured in Vancouver

On February 27th at the St. Vardan Armenian Church in Vancouver a reception was held in honour of the members of the 2010 Winter Olympics Armenian team. Armenia was represented in Vancouver by four athletes: Kristine Khachatryan, Ani-Matilda Serebrakian, Sergey Mikayelyan and Arsen Nersisyan, competed in cross-country and alpine skiing.

Nearly 200 members of the Armenian community of Vancouver were present at the reception. Mr. Arman Akopian, Charge d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in Canada, addressed those present at event. He thanked the Armenian team for representing their country at the Games, for dedication to the Olympic spirit and commitment to excellence and true sportsmanship. He also presented them with certificates on behalf of the Armenian Embassy.

A certificate of appreciation was also presented to the Armenian National Olympic Committee in recognition of its support for the Armenian Olympic Team. The certificate was accepted by Mr. Derenik Gabrielyan, Vice-President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee and the head of the Armenian delegation.

Armenia has been participating in the Winter Olympics since 1994.
