The monument entitled "Hope" ("l'Espoir") was cast by famous Armenian-Canadian sculptor Arto Tchakmakchian. Dignitories from Laval's municipal, Quebec's provincial and Canada's federal bodies were present and delivered speeches to the public.

In his speech on the occasion of the opening of the monument Armenian Ambassador to Canada Armen Yeganian highlighted the importance of international recognition of Armenian Genocide as an important measure to prevent similar crimes against humanity in the future.
