Embassy of Armenia Honoured World-Renowned Conductor Peter Oundjian

On April 10 the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Canada organized an evening honouring world-renowned conductor, musician Peter Oundjian.

Maestro Oundjian has been heading the Toronto Symphonic Orchestra for ten years and is also the Music Director and conductor of Scottish Royal National Orchestra.

Peter Oundjian started his musical career as a violinist – for long years being the First Violin of renowned Tokyo String Quartet.

During the evening talented pianist Hayk Arsenyan, who arrived from New York, presented masterpieces of Armenian classical music.

In his opening remarks Ambassador Armen Yeganian welcomed the guests, presented Maestro Oundjian and the accomplishments of his brilliant career. In his address Maestro Oundjian talked about classical music’s role in modern world, the ever-lessening attention to classical concerts accompanied with the rise of technology, and the importance of teaching music to the youth.

Later on Maestro Oundjian answered the questions of many guests from the Diplomatic Corps, Parliament of Canada, Foreign Ministry, other organizations and the Armenian community.
