99th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide Commemorated in Ottawa

26 April, 2014

Commemorations of the 99th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide took place in Ottawa on April 24. Representatives from the Armenian communities of Toronto, Montreal, Cambridge and other cities came to the capital to take part in the commemorations.

The event started at the Embassy of Armenia, where wreaths were placed at the monument “Armenia Immortal”, and the clergymen, under the guidance of Locum Tenens of Armenian Diocese of Canada Archbishop Nathan Hovhannisyan, provided a requiem liturgy for the souls of Armenian Genocide’s victims.

Commemorations continued in front of the Canadian Parliament, where Members of Parliament and other officials joined the demonstrating Armenians and addressed them with speeches. Ambassador Yeganian also addressed the demonstrators and stressed that Turkey’s ongoing denial of Armenian Genocide is inadmissible.
