29 April, 2014

A monument dedicated to the victims of Armenian Genocide was unveiled in Vancouver on April 27. The unveiling ceremony was attended by Ambassador Armen Yeganian, representatives of Canadian federal, provincial and municipal bodies, leaders of Armenian community.

In his speech Ambassador Yeganian stressed the importance of instituting a monument in Vancouver honouring the 1.5 million innocent victims in Ottoman Turkey ahead of the Centennial Anniversary of Armenian Genocide.

The monument, designed by Matilda Aslizade, depicts archival fingerprint of a victim of Armenian Genocide. Situated in a public park, the monument, an integral part of the Centennial Commemoration agenda, is an addition to the commemorative monuments of Armenian Genocide in Montreal, Laval, Toronto and other Canadian cities.
