Cultural Event at the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Canada

A classical music concert took place on November 4th, hosted by the Embassy of Armenia in Canada, in support of Canadian National Arts Centre Orchestra. The concert was a fundraising event, with all concert revenues pledged to the Orchestra’s Young Artists’ Foundation. Renowned Canadian artists, journalists and representatives of the Canadian-Armenian community attended the event.

In his welcome speech, Armen Yeganian, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, spoke on Armenia’s active cooperation and excellent relationship with the National Arts Centre of Canada, showcasing this concert as one of many examples of this relationship. Ambassador Yeganian commented on the importance of the fine arts in both Armenian and Canadian culture, and stressed the readiness of the Armenian Embassy to always support projects to promote Armenian and Canadian culture through fine arts.

During the evening notable musicians, such as Yosuke Kawasaki, the Concertmaster of Canada's National Arts Centre Orchestra, Vadim Serebryany, a professor of music and a soloist, and Thomas Shahbaghyan, a young and talented Canadian Armenian violinist, performed the works of such classical music giants like Aram Khachaturian, Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev. Thomas Shahbaghyan is currently studying under Grigor Shahverdyan, a professor of music at Concordia University.

All the performances were highly appraised by the audience.
