Ambassador Yeganian participated at an event, dedicated to the freeing of Yazidis from the Islamic State

On December 10th, Armen Yeganyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, took part in an event dedicated to the freeing of Yazidis from the Islamic State. The event was held in the Zoomer Media Center in Toronto. The event was hosted by One Free World International to commemorate Human Rights Day. In addition to Ambassador Yeganian, civil and political actors, diplomats, journalists and human rights defenders from Canada were also present.

In his speech, Ambassador Yeganian spoke on the history of Armenian Genocide, drawing parallels between the violence perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire in the beginning of the previous century and the violent acts carried out against Yazidis by the Islamic State in Iraq in 2014.

Concluding his speech, Ambassador Yeganian spoke about the Yazidis living in Armenia, where they live as normal citizens, with protected equally under the law, just as other ethnic minorities in Armenia are. He also gave details on the world’s largest Yazidi temple, currently being built in the village of Aknalich in Armavir region.

Towards the end of the event the attendees had the opportunity to listen to Tsirani Tsar, written by Komitas and performed by Anna Maria, a Syrian Armenian who recently found refuge in Canada.
