The Regular Session of The Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group

On April 17 Ambassador Armen Yeganian attended the regular session of the Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group. Chairman of the Friendship Group, Honourable Harold Albrecht, opened the floor then invited Ambassador Yeganian to brief to the members of the Group.

In his presentation Ambassador underlined that the year of 2013 marks the 25th Anniversary of Karabakh Movement, which has triggered the colapse of mighty Soviet Empire. His Excellency also talked about the 25th Anniversary of tragic events in Sumgait. In his detailed report Ambassador provided information on the Massacres - stressing their role in the amplification of anti-Armenian xenophobia and later pogroms in Azerbaijan.

Armen Yeganian praised the participation of the Canadian delegation led by Parliamentary Secretary Deepak Obhrai at the Inauguration Ceremony of the President of Armenia. Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism Chungsen Leung commented on the visit afterwords. As a member of the delegation, he thanked for the chance to participate in the Inauguration ceremony and emphasized the importance of the visit for the bilateral relations.

During the session issues concerning Syrian-Armenians and an event dedicated to the 98th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were also discussed.
