A Landmark Visit of Canadian Minister to Armenia

The working visit to the Republic of Armenia of the Minister of Employment and Social Development, Minister of Multiculturalism of Canada, the Honourable Jason Kenney took place from July 28 to August 1.

Minister Kenney was received by the President, Speaker, Prime Minister, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora of Armenia.

During the meetings the current level of bilateral relations was appreciated and the importance of its development was stressed. The role of Christian values and the active Armenian Community of Canada were mentioned as a unifying element for the two countries.

Armenian leadership expressed its gratitude to Minister Kenney for his personal role in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Canada. Armenian side also thanked the Minister for Canada’s full support to Armenia’s membership in the Organization of la Francophonie.

During his stay in Armenia, Minister held a roundtable meeting with Canadian businessmen operating in Armenia and visited the flagship company in Armenian-Canadian cooperation in High-Tech “Macadamian Technologies”.

Jason Kenney visited Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial, laid a wreath to the Eternal Fire – honouring the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, attended a Mass at the Holy See of Ejmiatsin and met representatives of Canadian-Armenian Community.

Minister Kenney’s visit is another important landmark in the Armenian-Canadian relations after the successful visit of the Parliamentary Secretaries Deepak Obhrai and Chungsen Leung in 2013, it marks the high level of bilateral relations and is the evidence of its future potential.
