Ambassador Yeganian addressed the Annual General Meeting of Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group

On April 11th, the Annual General Meeting of Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group took place at the Parliament of Canada. The Ambassador of Armenia to Canada, Armen Yeganian attended the meeting.

During the meeting, new members were elected to the friendship group. Arnold Chan, member of the ruling Liberal party, was elected the President of the group. Harold Albrecht, Conservative Party member, Linda Lapointe, Liberal Party member as well as Alexander Boulerice from NDP were elected vice-presidents to the Executive board.

In his address, Ambassador thanked the former members of the group, which was headed for 8 years by Harold Albrecht, for all the work they had done over the years aimed at the development of Armenian-Canadian relations. The Ambassador welcomed the newly elected members to the group and expressed confidence that they would contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

The Ambassador touched upon all spheres of Armenian-Canadian relations, including bilateral political, economic and cultural ties. He also emphasized Armenian-Canadian effective cooperation in international arena, particularly in the framework of International Organization of La Francophonie.

Armen Yeganian talked in detail about the recent developments in Nagorno-Karabakh and strongly condemned the attacks and violence initiated by Azerbaijan. His Excellency asked the Canadian politicians to make addressed statements and calls henceforth.

The Ambassador also responded to questions from the friendship group members and spoke about the situation and issues concerning Syrian-Armenian refugees in Canada. He mentioned that Armenia received over 20,000 Syrian-Armenian as well as other Christian refugees from Syria and spoke about the efforts to support Syrian-Armenians who took refuge in Armenia.
