Ambassador Yeganian's Meeting with the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario

On April 18th, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, Armen Yeganian met the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario, Yasir Naqvi. The Deputy Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Matthew Torigian, and Khoren Mardoyan, advisor in Canada to the Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia, also took part in the meeting. The meeting was held to summarize Deputy Minister Torigian's visit to Armenia, which took place from March 14th to March 20th, 2016, and to discuss further areas of cooperation. The purpose of the March visit was to allow our Canadian partners to get acquainted with peculiarities and issues of crime response and public order maintenance in Armenia, as well as with the ongoing educational reform.

Yasir Naqvi touched upon the issue of education and training for police personnel, community engagement and other issues, all of which are pivotal for the reforms of the public safety system.

Ambassador Yeganian presented the introduction and implementation process of the community policing model in Armenia, mentioning the achievements in the field.

The parties agreed to explore the possibilities of long-term cooperation.
