On April 21, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Canada, Armen Yeganian had a working meeting with Anthony Housefather, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights of the House of Commons of Canada.

At the beginning of the meeting the sides reflected on the events, dedicated to the Centennial of Armenian Genocide, which took place in Armenia, Canada and various countries of the world. They discussed the upcoming Second Global Forum “Against the Crimes of Genocide”, which is to take place on April 23, in Yerevan. Canadian Government will be represented in Yerevan by MP Bryan May and his delegation.

During the meeting Ambassador presented in detail the recent developments in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Parties agreed that a distinct approach is necessary to condemn the initiator of military actions by addressed calls. Armen Yeganian and Anthony Housefather strongly condemned the use of prohibited weapons, targeting of civilian population and objects, as well as torture, mutilation of bodies and murder of elderly and soldiers.

During the meeting the parties touched upon the current situation of Armenian-Canadian relations and recent developments in all areas of mutual interest. The Ambassador gave an update about Canadian companies operating in Armenia. Mr. Yeganian and Mr. Housefather also stressed the importance of establishing of the Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Armenia.

Ambassador Yeganian touched upon Armenia's participation in peacekeeping missions in various countries. The parties exchanged ideas related to Armenian-Canadian effective partnership in international arena, particularly in the framework of International Organization of la Francophonie.

The sides agreed to hold regular working meetings.
